Pilates is a system of deep-conditioning exercises that strengthen and stretch the body, focusing on developing core strength, improved posture and long, lean muscular lines.
A former gymnast, Joseph Pilates, thought to re-educate the body by building core strength instead of superficial muscle mass thereby allowing the body to function in an integrated manner. This exciting new process promoted freedom of movement and the connection between body and mind.
Pilates invented a series of exercises that can be done either in mat format or on the springresistance equipment which stretch and strengthen the muscles at the same time. These sequential exercises progress from simple to more challenging using relaxed breathing and have a dance-like flow and rhythm. When a student builds strength, stamina and speed the workout advances to a more aerobic pace and creates the exhilarating state of body / mind connection.
